Overview:
We’re partnered with Building Services firm that are looking for a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to spearhead the design and delivery of mechanical and energy-efficient systems within high-impact decarbonisation and retrofit projects. From concept to commissioning, this role will guide mechanical designs across RIBA Stages 2-7, with a focus on heat pumps, HVAC, and advanced energy conservation measures.
The Role:
- Lead mechanical system design for sustainable retrofit projects, ensuring performance, compliance, and integration with electrical and energy strategies
- Oversee BIM and CAD coordination across multidisciplinary teams
- Develop and optimise modelling tools for system analysis and performance tracking
- Ensure alignment with industry standards including CIBSE, PAS 2035, MCS, and UK regulations
- Manage and mentor a team of engineers, driving excellence and innovation
- Support procurement, technical reviews, and strategic client engagement
- Lead feasibility studies and support funding applications (e.g., PSDS, GHNF, HNES)
- Guide retrofit strategies from feasibility through to M&V (Measurement & Verification)
About You:
- 10+ years in mechanical design and decarbonisation
- Expertise in heat networks, HVAC, BMS, and retrofit strategies
- Strong understanding of UK standards, building regulations, and low-carbon technologies
- Proficiency in BIM, IES, EnergyPro, and energy simulation tools
- Chartered Engineer (CIBSE/IMechE) preferred
- Retrofit Designer Certification is a strong advantage
